The Tailor vs The Tailored

Tim Sholem was presented his tailored SFG trousers by sponsor Joel Newland at a wet and windy day at The Oxfordshire.

Joel Newland our Personal Tailor at SFG arranged over the winter another pair of top tier golfing trousers for Tim Sholem, Meyrick Park member, 3 handicapper, winner of SFG Q-School in 2009 and the man with a 100% record at the SFG Challenge Cup Final.

Complete with SFG logos and recognition of his achievements at Celtic Manor these trousers are impressive “What a bonus, a great prize!” commented Tim.

“Tim, we wish you many rounds of sub-par golf in these fine trousers. Well done” commented Joel Newland.

The trousers had the following characteristics

  • 4 ply yarn (double strength yarn)
  • High Twist (increased resilience)
  • 8 oz Plain Weave (light weight and airy very comfortable even in hot conditions)
  • Flat Memory (Wrinkle resistant - whatever happens cloth wants to return to a flat appearance)
  • Water resilient (fibres protected from moisture) shower proof. In essence a super low maintenance cloth to be worn when it is hot, humid and potentially showery.

So onto the match... Well at SFG we thought it only proper to see the tailor (9 handicap) take on the champion at The Oxfordshire, venue for the southern SFG Major, Q-School and Matchplay finals.

To throw some more chaos into the mix we made the 2 players take on the SFG Directors Rob Millar (8 Handicap) and Paul Heming (12 handicap). The game started brightly with an evenly contested match and after 9 holes Tim had a one hole lead over Joel and the SFG team one hole up in the match. 12 holes played and with SFG two shots in front and Joel still one shot behind Tim, the tailor cranked up his game and promptly finished with 2 birdies and 4 pars to win his match with Tim and also beat the SFG directors.

Paul Heming, Chief Executive of SFG commented “Joel played some great golf and we’ll be looking forward to see him in action as he himself tries to qualify to make the team and win a pair of his own trousers!”
