The August Meeting at Royal North Devon runs from 16th - 25th August and includes individual as well as team events.

We run a visitors composite entry fee that includes:

1. President Prize 18 hole medal
2. Schoolmasters (knockout hcap event each round over 18 holes)
3. Wednesday and Friday 18 hole medals (includes 36 hole aggregate)

This is just £100 (or you can enter individually)

The Kashmir Cup on Sat 25th August is a 36 hole medal off the Championship tees this is an SFG Scheduled event.

Come along and play the oldest Links course in England all week !

I have heard varying reports that the use of an Iphone may be illegal during a competition.

The issue being that an Iphone4 or 4s comes with a compass that i dont think can be removed. I found this on the R&A website relating to the subject:

When an application that measures distance has been downloaded to the device, the application must be restricted to providing only distance information in order to conform to the Local Rule. If there are any other features or applications on the phone that gauge or measure other conditions that might affect a player’s play, such as a temperature gauge, compass or anemometer, this would render the device non-conforming regardless of whether these other features or applications are used or not.

I use Golfshot GPS (i dont actually use the gps feature anymore as i have a Bushnell now( and all i use it for is stats for my round, so i only usually access it between holes, not during a hole. Not sure if that would make any difference and I dont want to open the proverbial can of worms here but i am a little concerned that this might come to light after my next awesome round of golf and i'll get disqualified !!!

Happiness, rather than working hard, is the key to success, according to research published by a team from the University of California Riverside, led by Professor Sonja Lyubomirsky. Cheerful people are more likely to try new things and challenge themselves, which reinforces positive emotion and leads to success in work, good relationships and strong health, say psychologists.

The findings suggest that happiness is not a "feel good" luxury, but is essential to people's wellbeing.

"For example, they show that happy people tend to earn higher incomes," said Prof Lyubomirsky. Having established the link, they wanted to discover the cause.

"Almost always it has been assumed that things that correlate with happiness are the causes of happiness, but it could be just the opposite - that those things tend to be caused by happiness," said Professor Ed Diener from the University of Illinois, another author on the paper.

Other studies revealed that having a sunny outlook on life appeared to precede good fortune.

Some of my clients have reported feeling better about their games without instantly seeing their results improve. They then leave the coaching principles behind and go back to trying hard to get better and a more stressed way of trying to improve.

Living and working with the idea that happiness follows success means that we are stressed most of the time and when success does come the happiness is short lived.

If we realise that success follows happiness then we would all enjoy ourselves more and worry less.

DO’S AND DON’T OF REPAIRING PITCHMARKS

DO….
• Discard the loose piece of turf taken out by the ball.
• Insert the pitchmark repairer tool just outside of the back of the pitchmark (i.e. the opposite end from the direction the ball landed).
• Lever the turf towards the centre of the pitchmark and repeat this motion from all sides of the pitchmark.
• Gently tap the repaired area with your putter. This stretches undamaged turf over the pitchmark, providing instant recovery.

I was lucky enough this summer to win a custom fit set of irons from Srixon Cleveland through the points I accumulated through the One Golf Card.

Firstly I’d like to say thanks to the guys at SFG for sourcing such excellent prizes through sponsorship, I’ve certainly won some nice stuff over the last couple of years.

My main reason for posting however was to say thanks to Srixon Cleveland for an excellent fitting. The guy who guided me through it was really friendly and knowledgeable, and was completely thorough, even to the extent that we went well over the usual hour they set aside.

As a golf geek I love the trackman data and being able to see swing speed, spin rate, dispersion etc, and the top quality technology at the centre let me view all the info I could possibly want.

I was fitted with a set of Cleveland CG16 Tour irons, 2 iron to PW. I could have the 2 iron at no extra cost to me. I also had my choice of grips and shafts at no extra cost. The irons arrived within 2 weeks and I have seen the benefits already. Being properly fitted has helped me with my distance control especially and I have been cut from 5.2 to 3.7 in the short 3 months that I’ve had them, despite it being winter!

What are your thoughts on allowing women members to play in mens events if they are willing to play off the competition tee's? I think this would be of benefit for some of the promising female juniors and a good way to play more competitions at their own clubs. After all it is now 2011 and not 1911.

The amnesty for claiming ANY Open event this year is up on 30th September. If you wish to claim for either Tour please do so from the website at www.onegolfcard.com/tour-events/claim-points.html before tomorrow at midnight.

For more recent SFG events the cut off will also be September 30th and we will endevour to get all results up to date and close the "Race to Trevose" on the 5th October. If you are eagerly awaiting news as to whether you have made Qualifying School then the 5th October will be the day you find out!

I took Matt (current OOM Leader) to have his Paul Hurrion Putter fitted on Friday (see images on website), Firstly John Henshall made Matt putt with his current putter (YES- Galli), using the Quintic Putting Software, John established that Matt's ball was leaving the club facing and was in the air for up to 10 inches before landing, in addition there was a tremedous amount of side spin on the ball as measured by the software. Following the introduction of the Paul Hurrion Putter, Matt's side spin came down to almost nothing and with the slightly de-lofted Putter face the amount of time the ball spent in the air was reduced to almost 3 inches.

This resulted in a truer, straighter roll and thus more putts sunk. Pleased with his new toy, Matt played in a competition on Saturday and had 32 putts and played for the Celtic Manor Junior team on Sunday with only 29 putts, a big improvement on the usual 36 putts per round.

He is now looking forward to reducing his handicap with his new putter.

I enjoyed watching the PGA Championship last weekend and was really interested to hear Keegan Bradley's comments before his final round. He sais that his goal for the week was too " undereact" during each round. Not get too down about double bogeys or worse, not get to up about birdies or eagles. Staying calm was his intention. He did pretty well until that long putt at 17, when he was fist pumping! He is human afterall and with a firm intention he remained calm for the four days.

This ties in with my understanding of high performance, you need to remain equanamous, calm like Keegan did. Dufner had a similar attitude. So does Donald, Westwood, Kaymer. Most of these guys, when playing well, remain calm. This way the mind remains balanced and focus is strong and performance is good.

Are you allowing the game to take you on a rollecoaster of emotions out on the golf course? If it helps you to perform then keep doing it but I imagine that if you really pay attention, your performance drops off.

You could set an intention to remain calm and equanamous for the next few rounds.

After every three holes rate your calmness out of 10.

10 being really calm. 1 being up and down, high and low.

Find out for yourself what works best.

Alternatively, come for some coaching with me or attend the golf school to really experience what a calm mind will do for your golf game,

Thoughts please on what you feel, when you are watching a proffesional tournament on tv and the tour "pro" fires a ball into the crowd without even a gesture or a shout of fore. Nothing ever seems to be said to them and its not a great example to set for the people watching the game especially the impressionable youngsters. Maybe a fine needs to be imposed, before someone gets seriously injured.

American rookie Keegan Bradley beat countryman Jason Dufner in a play-off to win his first major at the USPGA.

The 25-year-old triumphed by one shot in a three-hole showdown after the pair ended tied at eight under in Atlanta.

Bradley earlier triple-bogeyed the 15th to hand Dufner a five-shot lead but kept his nerve as his rival faltered.
