SFG MATCHPLAY TOURNAMENT - NEW FOR 2010

Take part in the SFG Matchplay Tournament to qualify.for TEAM SFG.

With 3 spots (North & South UK / Scotland) on TEAM SFG at the Challenge Cup Final at Trevose against the Ryder Cup players there is plenty to play for.

FORMAT - MATCHPLAY FINALS (last 16 per region)

  • Final venues (no green fee to pay)
    • Northern UK Matchplay Final - Hollins Hall, Bradford - Tuesday 5th October 2010
    • Southern UK Matchplay Final - The Oxfordshire - Wednesday 6th October 2010
    • Scottish Matchplay Final - Tuesday 21st September 2010 - The Carrick, Loch Lomond
  • The final 16 players per region will arrive at the Matchplay Final venues.
  • There will be a draw on the day with a knockout format taking place every 9 holes, which will result in a possible 36 holes for the finalists
    • Round 1 - Last 16
    • Round 2 - Quarter Finals
    • Round 3 - Semi-Finals
    • Round 4 - Final (winner progresses to TEAM SFG)
  • In the event of a tie after 9 holes the winner will be the first player to have won a hole. if every hole has been halved then the match will be decided by sudden death format e.g. first player to win a hole.

FORMAT - QUALIFYING ROUNDS

  • Individual Matchplay competition open to anyone with an SFG Tour Card.
  • Players will get full handicap allowance with the Matchplay format as prescribed by the Rules of Golf.
  • There are different competitions for South England & Wales, North England & Wales and Scotland.
  • Players are notified and given a date by which they must play their round and then inform the organisers of the result. 
  • Players who enter the Matchplay competition early will have a greater chance of home advantage.
  • The home individual will be responsible for arranging the tee time at their club with any green fee for the visitor being halved between the players.
  • The draw will start with matches as locally as possible with later rounds increasing in distance.
  • There will be a series of knockout of rounds (estimated 3-4, but dependent on numbers) until the last 16 players per region are decided. The last 16 will progress to the regional finals (see details below)

 

Rules of the SFG Matchplay Tournament

1. The competition will be played in accordance with the rules of golf as laid down by the R&A. Approved for the payment of expenses Rule 4-2g.

2. Players will get full handicap allowance with the Matchplay format as prescribed by the Rules of Golf. GPS systems are permitted for competitors use as long as they are accepted by the R&A.

3. Competitors can enter the Northern England & Wales, Southern England & Wales or Scottish events. Men and Ladies are entered into the same competition. Ladies take their shots according to the Men's Stroke Index. However, they also receive additional courtesy shots equivalent to the difference between the Mens and Ladies Standard Scratch Score. Any such difference should be added to the lady's handicap before calculating her difference off the lowest player.

4. Entries not received by midnight on 31st May 2010 will be disregarded. Once accepted, entries cannot be withdrawn, rescinded, amended or refunded, other than in exceptional circumstances at the total discretion of the Tournament Director.

5. Entry is open to all players who hold a handicap certificate of 9 or below. If a players handicap rises above 9 in the course of the season they will be required to play of a handicap of 9.

6. This is a singles competition which players must hold a handicap certificate as listed below

- CONGU - a current member of a CONGU affiliated golf club.

- Golfshake / Strokes Golf Handicap or equivilient- a current subscriber to Handicap system who has entered a minimum of 3 cards between April 30th 2000 and May 31st 2010

7. Current handicap certificates must be taken to each match and shown to the opponents before the match commences. If a competitor does not provide a handicap certificate on the day of the match he/she must provide proof of handicap to the organisers within 48 hours of completion of the match if requested by the opponents.

8. The entry fee is free provided you hold a current SFG Tour Card.

9. Players will be notified of their opponents in each round by e-mail as requested at the time of entry. No other confirmation of entry will be issued.

10. The home competitor will be responsible for contacting opponents to arrange a mutually suitable date and ensuring play is possible at the chosen course at the time agreed.

11. The winning competitor in each round must inform the organiser in writing (e-mail/fax/post) by the prescribed date. Failure to do so will result in disqualification. Failure to play a match by the prescribed date will result in the disqualification of both competitors.

12. The winning competitors that registers their result first will benefit from home advantage in the next round.

13. By entering into this event you automatically give permission for your name and contact information to be made available to other competitors.

14. Qualifying rounds will be played between June 2010 and September 2010. Regional Finals (North, South, Scottish) will be held in the first week of October April 2010.

15. The winner from each of the competitions (Northern England & Wales, Southern England & Wales or Scottish) will win a place on TEAM SFG in the SFG Challenge Cup Fina which will be held at Trevose Golf Club from 18th - 20th October 2010.

16. The invitation to the SFG Challenge Cup Final will include 2 night's accommodation including bed, breakfast & dinner, single or twin accommodation and three rounds of golf

17. All players at the Grand Final will be responsible for any other expenses such as travel, additional food and drinks other activities.

18. Friends, relatives, supporters can travel and be accommodated entirely at their own expense. The organisers have arranged special rates. Interested parties should contact the Tournament Director.

19. In the event that play is not possible at either Regional or Grand Finals, the Tournament Director reserves the right to settle the competition in any way deemed fit.

20. All queries should be directed to the Tournament Director at the address shown.

21. All decisions concerning the running and administration of the SFG Matchplay Tournament rests with the Tournament Director and his decision in all matters is final and binding on all competitors.

22. SingleFigureGolfer Ltd reserve right to change the Grand Final venue and date of any rounds at any time without prior notice.
