A sumptuous lunch at the newly built 2010 Clubhouse was followed by the Fourball matches. Team SFG consolidated their advantage by winning the first 3 matches with mature displays.

Match One - Chapman & Walton lost 4&3 to Bowe & Watts

Philip Walton and Roger Chapman lose to Stuart Watts and Will Bowe in the fourballs at the SFG final at Celtic Manor

Bowe and Watts were worthy winners over Walton and Chapman. Bowe, a cattle farmer from Cumbria was delighted with his performance and insisted, "That is the best I have struck the ball in many weeks".

Match Two - Richardson & Way lost 4&3 to Kelly & Hearne

Paul Way seeks his first point of the SFG final

Kelly and Hearne dispatched ex Ryder Cup stars Richardson and Way with consummate ease. The amatuers were delighted to have scored their first point after both losing in the morning fourballs although it did little to help Paul Way's mood.

Match Three - Brand Snr & Morley lost 2&1 to Smith & Sholem

Gordon Brand Senior and Joanne Morley is defeated by Olly smith and Tim sholem

Match two was quickly followed by a win for Smith and Sholem against Brand Senior and Joanne Morley. The score was now 6-2 to Team SFG with Q-School winner Tim Sholem and the seemingly unfazed Olly Smith completing a perfect day.

Match Four - McHenry & Robinson halved with Kenny & O'Connell

John McHenry's short game earned a half point with his team mate Jeremy Robinson

The Pro Challenge Team needed some divine inspiration and that seemed to come from a School Choir who were filming near the final green for the Ryder Cup Charity Tenovus. McHenry and Robinson shared half a point with O'Connell and Kenny.

Match Five - Brand Jnr & Hawksworth won 1 up to Fosker & Rowntree

Gordon Brand Junior drives in a close fought victory with partner John Hawksworth

Brand Junior and Hawksworth narrowly defeated Rowntree and Fosker on the last green after a real battle of wits and determination from all four players. An exhausted Hawksworth said, "That was the most enjoyable golf I've played in years, I loved it plus it was a great match, I was really revved up and thankfully we just edged them out at the last". To prove his point Hawksworth ran up the steep bank behind the 18th green to collect a victory glass of red wine, still grinning like a cheshire cat.

After and exciting first day the scores stood at 6 ½ - 3 ½ in Team SFG's favour. An exciting last day of singles matches was eagerly awaited by all.
