It helps if you know within 10% what distance you can hit each club, and will be more use to the more consistent player. Some counties do not allow them to be used in competitions at present. I have not purchased one as yet, but seriously thinking of adding it to my Xmas list. |

At present they don't seem to be allowed in comps, I think that if they were allowed it would speed up the game of golf. The amount of time wasted (thinking of the pros on tour)by the pros caddie pacing out the distances etc, you could be back in the 19th enjoying a well deserved beer. Make them LEGAL NOW __________________ G,I,&,R,I |

When I use them I find it gives you confidence in club selection and takes doubt out of your mind. It does speed up play cos the better you get at this game you need to know how far it is to the flag and not just a rough estimate will do and saves pacing out. |

I bought a bushnell tour and its fab as long as you can see the green, would'nt trade it for anything , my handicap has dropped from 7 to 5 since ive had it....though that could be new clubs helping. But still its great. |

Being a "beta" it only gives the distance to front, middle and back of the green. I believe the prop version would allow you to log your score etc. I have found that knowing the distance to the back has allowed me to fire at the pin without fear or going through. Freecaddie takes a while to get going when fired up but only a few seconds to update a position whilst walking around the course. Thoroughly recommended. |

It has a courseplanner unlike the Skycaddie so you can see the shape of the hole (useful on blind shots!) It also doesn't jump away from the hole your playing if you hit a stray tee shot. Best feature is your ability to update the planner with new features - bunkers, trees, lay ups etc as you are going round the course. Oh - and there is no annual fee or course download fees for UK courses Have used it in National, County & Club run scratch events this season - They are legal in comps as long as the comp organisers have made a decision approving their use - which most organisers now have Last edited by ColinJohnson (02 Oct 2009 - 19:42) |

Reason? none other than price. In my view each will do well BUT a word of warning some of the models have slope etc which will be banned in many open comps. |

| RogerFourt SFG newbie! ![]() Joined: 09 Jun 2009 Posts: 6 | I’ve had a Bushnell 1500 Tour Edition for a whole season and I love it. It’s easy to use, accurate and fast. Once you are familiar with the sighting system you can get a number to the pin or any other target in a couple of seconds. I’ve compared it to other models used by other golfers and it rates well. The Bushnell Tour V2 seems to have trouble targeting things and locking on and the Nikon seems to be good but without the same level of magnification as the Bushnell 1500 this makes it harder to lock onto flags more than about 170 yards away. I’ve also played with GPS systems and don’t like them so much. The big advantage of the laser rangefinders is that you get the number to the pin, not front, middle or back of the green and on blind shots this is fantastic. The really big advantages are with courses you’ve never played you can just club and shoot and in general it speeds up play considerably. No more yardage charts and pacing up and down. |

Golfbuddy have two editions of gps systems out at the moment with a 3rd due for release in august,(Which i will get) the Pro edition, The Tour edition, and due august the World Platinum, Golfbuddy World Platinum Other golf buddy products, all of which hold 40,000 courses, with no download fees, and no subscription,, Golf Buddy |

To be honest I have been using a sky caddie now for a while and if you are playing your own course you tend to know the distances anyway. I feel that working out the wind direction and strength to be more important than 3 or 4 yards here or there. |

All I hear though from people who use it moans about battery life - so 2 questions a) is the battery life really that bad? can it cope with 36 holes? b) do they do a similar app for a blackberry? |

The battery lasted better before the latest update but thats because i have left the default settings on for the GPS. I found that if you leave the "background GPS" to 5 minutes then it stays awake for 5 mins when you have taken your reading, it seems to come back to life and give the next distance quicker like this. I think it would last longer if i reduced this time but i havent tried it. I managed to get 36 holes out of it at Churston a while ago (before the update) but it might be a struggle on Saturday. i will put it on charge in the car during the lunch break. I emailed the company yesterday for a course adjustment and they did it straight away too. 5 stars !! __________________ See you at Trevose - I'll be behind the lens again ! |
