WHO QUALIFIES FOR MEMBERSHIP?
Membership to SFG is open to all amateur golfers with a handicap of 9 or below. If your handicap rises above this you may be balloted out of some regional events and any Gold or Major events would require you to play off a handicap of 9 for that day.
WHAT IS THE SFG TOUR CARD AND WHAT DOES THE FEE COVER?
An SFG Tour Card costs £49 per year for full entry into the Order of Merit, Matchplay and offer a discount on the Major events. You will need to purchase a tour card to accrue Order of Merit points and to enter the Matchplay event but it is not required to enter the Major events. There are also associated benefits from having an SFG Tour Card e.g. free golf insurance.
WHAT DOES IT COST TO PLAY IN EACH TOURNAMENT?
The entry fee for each Tour event varies depending on tournament location, venue, etc. and is normally set b the hosting club. Please check your local Tour schedule.
HOW ARE TOUR EVENTS OPERATED?
The Tour is operated in the main by golf clubs who run them as they normally would for an Open event. All Tour events abide by the R&A rules of golf, especially pertaining to Amateur Status.
ARE EVENTS NET OR GROSS?
All scoring is for the SFG events (including matchplay) are based on nett scores with a full handicap allowance.
HOW MANY EVENTS CAN I PLAY?
You are welcome to play in as many or as few events as you like, the Order of Merit points are highly stacked in favour of a high placed finish so player who compete in more events will still need to play very well to qualify.
WHEN ARE THE TOURNAMENTS HELD?
Tour events are typically held during the weekend, either on a Saturday or Sunday (or both).
CAN I PLAY IN TOURNAMENTS OUTSIDE MY REGION e.g. NORTH & SOUTH ORDER OF MERIT?
SFG Tour Card holders can compete in any local tournament or Majors and entries for these events are on a first come, first served basis. Please contact the hosting club for entry forms.
HOW DO I REGISTER FOR TOURNAMENTS?
Use the links on the Tour Schedule page then complete the entry form and post back along with a cheque to the tournament organiser.
AM I REQUIRED TO HAVE AN OFFICIAL HANDICAP?
If you do not currently have a current CONGU handicap then you will require an online handicap e.g. strokes etc. Whilst entry to the Matchplay and Majors will accept these some clubs may only accept a current CONGU handicap and it is advised that player check before they enter if they are in any doubt.
WHAT IS A MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP? DO I NEED TO QUALIFY FOR A MAJOR?
There will be a minimum of three (3) Majors. The winner of these events will automatically qualify for the SFG Challenge Cup final. You do not need an SFG Tour Card to play in these events.
WHAT IS THE SFG CHALLENGE CUP FINAL AND HOW DO I QUALIFY?
The SFG Challenge Cup final is a 3 day event against Ryder, Solheim and Walker Cup players. The format normally consists of a practise day followed by foursomes and fourballs (day1) and singles. Qualification comprises Order of Merit, Matchplay and Majors and can vary from year to year.
