SingleFigureGolfer (SFG) is a unique community for Single Figure Golfers based around a tour and exclsuive benefits.
An SFG is a 'Single Figure Golfer' who has a single figure handicap.
A single figure handicap is what the majority of golfers strive for and based on this principle we have created a community for SFG's with exclusive benefits.
Membership cannot be bought by paying for it, you simply have to be good enough.
SFG is owned by 2 entrepreneurs (Rob Millar and Paul Heming) and Powerplay Golf (founded by Peter McEvoy OBE - Walker Cup and England Golf captain).
SFG's will have access to an exclusive tour, tournaments, offers, custom-made clothing and travel breaks.
The SFG Tour is the flagship product of the company where players compete in regional tournaments to win their place within the UK SFG team captained by Peter McEvoy.
Each year the UK SFG team will play against an 'International Team' consisting of ex Ryder Cup, Walker Cup and Solheim cup players in a grand finale to the season.
The SFG Tour which will begin in March comprising regional tournaments culminating in October 2009.
The SFG concept is due for expansion into Europe, South Africa and Australian markets in 2009 with America and India planned in 2010.
Background
It all began on a golf tour in Ireland in 2004. Eight tourists, five hundred competitors and four SFG shirts. By the end of the tournament we wish we had created the company along with enough shirts to sell to those that wanted them!
You have all been on the tour where the fear of wearing the ‘dope shirt’ is in all minds on the first tee and the team event for dinner and drinks becomes more important than the Ryder Cup.
Add in a whole new dimension, the wearing of a shirt not because you bought it but because you have earned it!
A logo that says to your opponent "you are going to have to play your best today, because you already know what I can do".
A logo that gives you the edge you need on the first tee and not because your opponent is still drunk from last night (although on tour you normally are!)
Think of a logo that only four of the eight were allowed to wear and already you can imagine the world of egos, mind games, competition, banter and bragging rites that we had created by simply trying to "wind our fellow tourists up!"
It started with giving the shirts only to those entitled to wear them but not explaining why they could or what the initials stood for. In fact no-one was told and as the tour progressed every golfer who saw the shirt became curious and wanted to know more.
It may also have had something to do with the fact they were bright pink and emblazoned with the words "I'm one are you?" on the back.
By the end of the tournament we wished we had already created the company along with enough clothing to sell to satisfy the demand.
SFG was born.
